When acting as a kid, the best productions are the ones where you feel “official,” that you’re in a “real” production with “real” actors.
For me, that production was Seattle Shakespeare Company’s Wooden O production of The Winter’s Tale performed outdoors in various public parks around the Seattle area. I was recommended for the production after a few Summers with the Seattle Children’s Theatre and was ecstatic to be double cast as Mamillius alongside another young actor.
Even though Mamillius’ presence is quick and tragically fleeting in the opening scenes of the play, participating in the production offered a young aspiring actor the unique experience to witness a polished, professional theatre process in the works.
